South Portland Food Cupboard Relocation + Expansion

🎉 We're Moving!  We are proud to announce a major milestone in our history: South Portland Food Cupboard is relocating to a significantly larger facility at 443C Western Avenue, in the Jetport Plaza—formerly the Burlington Coat Factory. This new space marks a bold step forward in our mission to alleviate food insecurity in our community. With 8,500 square feet—double our current space—we will have the capacity to better meet the growing needs of our neighbors with expanded food storage, increased efficiency, and a more welcoming experience for all.

Why We’re Moving

As demand for our services continues to grow, our current location no longer meets the needs of our organization or the hundreds of individuals and families we serve each week.

Our new home will allow us to:

  • Double our physical space, from 4,000 to 8,500 square feet

  • Increase cold and dry storage capacity

  • Improve flow for client pickup and volunteer coordination

  • Expand programs, partnerships, and outreach opportunities

  • Create a more dignified and accessible environment

“Food insecurity and hunger aren't going away—and neither is our commitment to addressing them,” said Dwayne Hopkins, Executive Director of SPFC. “To fulfill our mission of ‘Feeding Neighbors in Need,’ we must stay healthy as an organization. That means investing in people, funding, and infrastructure. We're now entering a transformative phase: Give More, Feed More.

By doubling our space, we'll be able to serve more people in a more efficient, recipient-friendly, and food-safe way. It’s humbling to think we’ve grown from serving a dozen families in a small church room to feeding thousands in an 8,500-square-foot facility. We’re grateful and honored to help meet a growing need in our community.”

The new facility is expected to be fully operational by early fall 2025, with a ribbon-cutting celebration planned upon completion of the transition. To streamline operations and reduce traffic, SPFC will implement PantrySoft, a new digital scheduling system allowing recipients to order online and select pickup times. Accommodations will be available for individuals without internet access or those needing assistance with the technology.
