Safe Access to Food Amid ICE Enforcement

A Note to Our Community -

During the increased ICE activity in our community, our goal is to provide safe and reliable access to food.

The South Portland Food Cupboard is here to offer the best support possible. If you do not feel safe coming in person, you may temporarily use a proxy. A proxy can be a trusted friend, family member, neighbor, or social worker.

This option is available to:

  • Both current and new recipients

  • Individuals who live in South Portland or Portland

If you do not have a proxy, we will do our best to provide one from our trusted network.

Call us at 207.874.0379 or email help@southportlandfoodcupboard.org.

Additional Info:

South Portland Food Cupboard is committed to serving our community with compassion, dignity, and respect. Everyone is welcome here. We do not ask about or collect immigration status. Everyone deserves access to food and support.

We know that recent ICE is causing fear and uncertainty. Neighbors are being taken from their homes, workplaces, and neighborhoods. We take these concerns seriously and want to support everyone safely.

Proxy Pickups
To help neighbors who do not feel safe leaving home, we welcome the use of proxies. A proxy is a trusted friend, family member, or neighbor who can pick up food on your behalf.

  • Proxies may pick up for multiple families.

  • This option is available to both current and new recipients.

  • To arrange a proxy pickup, email support@southportlandfoodcupboard.org or call Monday–Friday, 7:30–11:00 AM.

  • We handle all information with confidentiality and care.

If you do not have a proxy, we will do our best to provide one from our trusted network.

Distributions & Location

  • You can view our distribution schedule here: southportlandfoodcupboard.org/distribution

  • We have moved! Our new location is 443 Western Ave, Jetport Plaza, South Portland, in the rear of the building, behind Staples.

Safety Measures
We are monitoring local conditions closely and will adjust our practices as needed to prioritize safety. Our team has prepared extensively, including:

  • Trained staff and parking lot attendants on distribution days

  • Volunteer preparation and clear communication protocols

  • Ongoing monitoring of best practices to keep distributions safe and welcoming

We also continue to support partner organizations that deliver food to neighbors whose safety may be at risk if they leave home. We encourage our community to support their vital work.

Our mission is rooted in “Feeding our Neighbors in Need”, and we are taking every step to ensure ALL neighbors are fed safely.

Thank you,
South Portland Food Cupboard Leadership
